A practical Contentful alternative when you need an integrated website platform
Contentful provides structured content APIs and enterprise publishing tools for a custom front end. Grigora supplies the website renderer, visual editor, newsletter and store from $12 per month billed annually. Compare that simpler setup with the flexibility you would give up.

Is Grigora the right Contentful alternative?
Choose Contentful for shared content across websites and apps, localization, references and managed editorial workflows. Choose Grigora when a managed website with a blog, newsletter and product store meets the brief. Contentful’s free plan includes a Starter Space, while Lite is $300 per month; your front-end implementation and hosting are separate considerations.
Choose Grigora if you want…
- A published website, not a JSON endpoint
- Hosting, SSL and CDN inside the same subscription
- A price that does not jump from $0 to $300
- A newsletter and a store without a second vendor
- No frontend codebase to staff, deploy and patch
Stick with Contentful if you…
- •Feed several channels and apps from one governed content model
- •Publish in many languages with locale-level control
- •Have a frontend team, a pipeline and a hosting provider already

When to consider a Contentful alternative
Consider these differences against the way you run your site.
The free plan stops rather than bills
One Space per organisation, 25 content types, two environments and 10,000 records, enforced as hard caps with no paid top-ups. You do not get an overage invoice, you get a halt, usually at the least convenient moment.
The first real step is $300, and the next is $1,150
Lite is listed at $300 a month, capped at two Spaces. The only capacity step above it is one Lite Space add-on at $850 a month on top. Above that the price is not published at all.
You have paid, and there is still no website
Templates, routing, navigation, search, forms, image markup and hosting are all yours. Contentful's own pricing FAQ notes that Studio and Personalization usually need development work before a marketer can use them.
Success costs extra
Past the included allowance it is $5 per additional million API calls and $0.15 per additional gigabyte of asset bandwidth per month, so the months your content works hardest are the months that cost most.
What Contentful does well
- Structured modelling and reuse that a page builder cannot match
- Localisation as a primitive, a technical maximum of 500 locales per environment, subject to lower plan entitlements
- Real release engineering: environments, aliases, CMA, CLI and webhooks
- Deep enterprise governance with SSO, SCIM, EU residency and an SLA
Where Contentful falls short
- Renders nothing, so the frontend is yours to build, host and maintain
- Free plan caps hard at 1 Space and 10,000 records with no top-ups
- Self-serve ends at $300/mo Lite plus one $850/mo Space, then sales
- Checkout and newsletters need integrations; website SEO output depends on the front end

Grigora vs Contentful: feature by feature
A category-by-category breakdown, pricing, AI, design, e-commerce, email, SEO, performance, and support.
The free plan and the wall it ends at
Fit: GrigoraContentful Free includes one Starter Space with 25 content types, two environments and 10,000 records, plus 100,000 API calls and 50 GB asset bandwidth per month. The pricing page lists no overages for these Free allowances. Monitor usage and confirm enforcement behavior before relying on it for a production project.
| Feature | Grigora | Contentful |
|---|---|---|
| Price of the free tier | Free trial | $0 forever |
| Spaces per organisation | You get a live site, not a Space | 1 |
| Content ceiling | Plan based, documented usage allowances | 10,000 records, 25 content types |
| What happens at the limit | Move up a plan | Hard stop, no paid top-ups |
| Support at entry level | Discord and docs, no tickets | |
| Commercial use | Yes | Framed for learning; a dated help page says not commercial |
Takeaway: Select a plan against content and delivery requirements, and monitor usage before reaching its limits.
The $300 step, the $850 step, then sales
Fit: GrigoraThe paid ladder is short. Lite is listed at $300 a month, with no annual rate published anywhere on the pricing page, and caps you at two Spaces. The single capacity step above it is one Lite Space add-on at $850 a month on top, taking you to 50 content types and 50,000 records. Past that there is no published number, only Enterprise and a sales conversation.
| Feature | Grigora | Contentful |
|---|---|---|
| Entry paid plan | $12/mo billed annually | $300/mo listed; no annual rate published |
| Next capacity step | Pro $20/mo, then Business $45/mo | Lite Space add-on at $850/mo on top, max 1 |
| Sites or Spaces allowed | 1 to 5 sites by plan | 1 on Free, 2 on Lite |
| Above that | White Label at $199/mo | Sales-led Enterprise, no published price |
| Response time guarantee | Email, priority on higher plans | Not guaranteed on Lite standard support |
Takeaway: Self-serve at Contentful means two prices and then a phone call, and the second price is $1,150 a month combined.
Who builds, hosts and keeps the frontend alive
Fit: GrigoraThis is the part the pricing page does not cost. Contentful delivers JSON over the Delivery, GraphQL, Preview and Sync APIs. Page rendering, templates, navigation, search, forms, URL structure, image markup and hosting are all yours to specify, build, pay for and keep running. Even Studio, the visual canvas, needs an Experiences SDK integration before a marketer can touch it, and Contentful's own pricing FAQ says Studio and Personalization typically need development work first.
| Feature | Grigora | Contentful |
|---|---|---|
| Renders a visible page | Yes | No |
| Templates included | Website templates | No |
| Hosting, SSL and CDN for the site | Included | Your own host, your own bill |
| Routing, navigation and forms | Built in | Your frontend code |
| Visual editing for marketers | Block editor on the live page | Studio, after an SDK integration |
| Who keeps it running | Grigora | Your team, indefinitely |
Takeaway: Contentful hands you content. The website is a separate project with its own budget, its own deploys and its own on-call rota.
API calls, asset bandwidth and what a good month costs
Fit: GrigoraOn paid plans, usage past the included allowance is metered: $5 per additional million API calls a month and $0.15 per additional gigabyte of asset bandwidth a month. That means a successful campaign, a chatty frontend or an aggressive preview build raises the invoice rather than the traffic graph alone. On Free the same limits are hard caps that stop you instead.
| Feature | Grigora | Contentful |
|---|---|---|
| Included API calls | Not metered | 100K/month Free, 1M/month Lite |
| API overage rate | None | $5 per extra 1M calls/month |
| Included asset bandwidth | CDN included | 50 GB/month Free, 100 GB/month Lite |
| Bandwidth overage rate | None | $0.15 per extra GB/month |
| Bill when a campaign lands | Unchanged | Rises with traffic |
Takeaway: Your bill moves with your traffic, and an inefficient frontend is both your problem to fix and your invoice to pay.
Content types, references and taxonomy
Fit: ContentfulContentful provides content types, references, tags, taxonomy and APIs so one content model can serve multiple websites or apps. Grigora provides website-focused content collections and directories; validate whether its model can represent your relationships before migrating.
| Feature | Grigora | Contentful |
|---|---|---|
| Custom content types | Collections and directories | Fully configurable, 25 to 50 per Space |
| References between entries | Basic | Up to 1,000 links per entry, 10 levels deep |
| Taxonomy | Categories and tags | 6,000 concepts, 20 schemes per organisation |
| One entry reused across channels | No | Yes |
| Visual content modeller | No | Yes |
Takeaway: If one piece of content has to appear correctly in five places at once, Contentful was built for that and Grigora was not.
Locales, translation and publishing one language at a time
Fit: ContentfulLocalisation is a primitive in Contentful rather than a plugin. a technical maximum of 500 locales per environment, subject to lower plan entitlements, locale-level publishing so a single language can go live on its own, localised preview, localised workflows and localised taxonomy. Most page builders handle a handful of languages by duplicating pages, and Grigora does not ship multi-language publishing at all.
| Feature | Grigora | Contentful |
|---|---|---|
| Locales per environment | Not built in | Up to 500 |
| Publish one language independently | No | Yes |
| Localised preview and workflow | No | Yes |
| Locales on the entry plans | Not applicable | 2 on Free, 3 on Lite |
| AI translation templates | AI writing, one language | AI Actions templates, Enterprise |
Takeaway: Multi-language publishing is a first-class feature there and a genuine gap in Grigora, though Free includes two locales and Lite includes three.
Environments, aliases and shipping content like code
Fit: ContentfulContentful gives content the release engineering that software gets. Sandbox environments (technical maximum 151 per Space; plan allowances are lower), environment aliases including custom aliases on higher plans, a full Content Management API, a CLI, webhooks with transformations, Functions and an App Framework. Content models can be branched, tested and promoted, with a documented way back. Grigora uses a simpler managed website editing workflow.
| Feature | Grigora | Contentful |
|---|---|---|
| Sandbox environments | No | Up to 151 per Space |
| Environment aliases | No | Yes, custom aliases higher up |
| Management API and CLI | No | CMA, CLI, GraphQL, REST, Preview, Sync |
| Webhooks and extensions | No | Webhooks with transformations, Functions, App Framework |
| Undo a content model change | Editor undo | Promote and revert between environments |
Takeaway: Contentful treats the content model as software. Grigora treats it as a setting, which is faster until the day you need to roll one back.
Selling and sending: checkout, catalogue and newsletter
Fit: GrigoraThere is no cart, checkout, payment processing, inventory, tax or shipping anywhere in Contentful. Product data is modelled as ordinary entries and linked to a real commerce engine through marketplace apps such as Shopify or commercetools, and you build the storefront yourself. There is no email marketing either. Klaviyo and SAP Emarsys appear on the pricing page as premium data connections feeding Personalization on Enterprise, not as a way to send a campaign.
| Feature | Grigora | Contentful |
|---|---|---|
| Cart and checkout | Built in, Stripe and Razorpay | No |
| Catalogue, variants and stock | Yes | Entries only, sell elsewhere |
| Digital downloads | Yes | No |
| Platform commission | 0% | No store to take one |
| Newsletter and subscriber list | 2,500 to 25,000 subscribers | No |
| Campaigns, automations, segmentation | Included | A separate platform you pay for |
Takeaway: Contentful can describe a product beautifully. It cannot take the money and it cannot send the email.
SEO fields and rendered output
Fit: GrigoraContentful can model SEO fields, and its apps and front-end integrations can use them. Your implementation must output metadata, canonical URLs, structured data, redirects and sitemaps correctly. Grigora makes common website SEO settings available in its managed publishing workflow.
| Feature | Grigora | Contentful |
|---|---|---|
| Meta title and description | Built in | Model the fields yourself |
| Sitemap generation | Automatic | Your frontend's job |
| Redirect manager | Built in | Your frontend or CDN |
| Schema markup controls | Built in | Hand-coded |
| IndexNow submission | Yes | No |
| Free SEO tools suite | Free SEO tools | No |
Takeaway: Evaluate the rendered site and its technical SEO implementation, not whether a CMS is headless.

Grigora vs Contentful pricing
Free to $300 is the jump most teams hit first. Here is the whole ladder, read live on 11 September 2026.
Website, newsletter & store in one plan
USD annual equivalents shown: Starter $12, Pro $20 and Business $45 per month; month-to-month prices are $15, $25 and $59. A free trial is available. Paid plans include website, CMS, newsletter and store features with stated page, storage, bandwidth and AI allowances. Stripe or Razorpay processing fees apply; fulfillment is manual and domain registration is separate.
Free, then a very long first step
Contentful publishes Free and $300/month Lite, with a separately priced Lite Space option and quoted Enterprise plans. Included API, bandwidth, role and locale allowances depend on plan. Technical maxima in the documentation are not plan entitlements. Front-end hosting and implementation are separate.
Grigora Business, the top standard plan, is $45 a month and includes hosting, the CMS, the newsletter and the store. That is roughly one seventh of Contentful's entry paid plan, before you have paid anyone to build the website Contentful does not include.
The real cost: Grigora vs Contentful
Model a company site with a blog, a subscriber list and a small catalogue, outgrowing the free tier in month three. Count what each side bills and what each side leaves you to build.
| What you pay for | Contentful | Grigora |
|---|---|---|
| Platform subscription | $0 free, or $300/mo on Lite | $12 to $45/mo |
| Step up when you outgrow it | +$850/mo Lite Space, then sales-led | Pro $20/mo or Business $45/mo |
| Building the frontend | A development project you scope and staff | AI first draft plus website templates |
| Hosting, SSL and CDN for the site | A separate provider and a separate bill | Included |
| Traffic overages | $5 per extra 1M API calls, $0.15 per extra GB | Not metered |
| Newsletter and store | Two more vendors, plus integration work | Both included, 0% commission |
| Publishing in many languages | a technical maximum of 500 locales per environment, subject to lower plan entitlements | Not built in |
Contentful figures read live on 11 September 2026 at contentful.com; no annual Contentful rate is published. Payment-processor fees apply to Grigora's store on both Stripe and Razorpay. Frontend development rates vary enormously; the presence of that line item does not.

Is Grigora the right Contentful alternative for you?
Where Grigora is a possible Contentful alternative, by use case.
Best Contentful alternative for teams without a frontend team
If nobody on staff owns a deploy pipeline, a headless CMS gives you a beautifully governed content store and no website. Grigora publishes the page as part of the plan.
… for prototypes that hit the free ceiling
One Space, 25 content types and 10,000 records is a proof of concept, not a product. Grigora's paid step is $12 a month, not $300.
… for marketing sites with a list and a catalogue
When the job is pages, a blog, a newsletter and a handful of products, Contentful covers the first two in JSON and none of the rest.
Contentful is the right call if…
You are feeding a website, a native app and partner surfaces from one governed model, publishing in more than a handful of languages, or you need environments, SSO, SCIM and an uptime SLA. Grigora does none of that, and nothing on this page pretends it does.
Which one is right for you?
Choose Grigora if…
- You want a live website, not a content endpoint
- The jump from free to $300 a month makes no sense for your site
- Nobody on the team wants to own a frontend deploy
- You need a newsletter and a store without two more vendors
- You would rather a fixed bill than a metered one
Choose Contentful if…
- •One content model has to serve web, apps and partner feeds
- •You publish in many languages with locale-level control
- •You need environments, SSO, SCIM and an uptime SLA
How to switch from Contentful to Grigora
Export a sample Space and prove the mapping before moving the full site. Contentful exports preserve data, but Grigora will not automatically reproduce references, locales, apps, permissions or your front-end code.

- 1
Start your Grigora site
Describe the business in a sentence and the AI generates a first-draft site with pages, layout and copy, or start from one of the website templates.
- 2
Export the Space
Use the Contentful CLI or the Content Management API to export entries, assets and the content model as JSON before your plan lapses.
- 3
Validate the model and languages
Map content types, references, rich text, assets, locales and existing URLs. Preserve required relationships and resolve unsupported workflows before approving the move.
- 4
Rebuild the pages, not the renderer
Rebuild templates, navigation, forms and search in the visual editor. Test representative content and integrations before retiring any code or services.
- 5
Point the domain and redirect
Move permission-based subscribers and compatible product data from their actual source services. Test redirects, canonical URLs, checkout and forms before switching DNS. Monitor indexing and retain rollback access; rankings are not guaranteed to stay unchanged.
Why people look for a Contentful alternative in 2026
Contentful provides governed content for websites, apps and other channels. For a team that only needs a managed website and newsletter, the custom front-end and content-model setup can be more than the brief requires. Compare a representative publishing workflow before deciding.
The free plan is a ceiling, not a starting allowance
Contentful Free includes a Starter Space, ten users, two roles and two locales, with stated content and delivery limits. Its pricing page positions it for learning and exploration. Assess the current terms and usage allowances for your project; older help pages should not override current plan descriptions.
Self-serve ends two rungs up
The paid ladder is unusually short for a product in this category. Lite is listed at $300 a month, with no annual figure published and no monthly and annual toggle on the page, and it lifts you to 20 users, three roles, three locales, a million API calls and two Spaces. The one capacity step above it is a single Lite Space add-on at $850 a month on top of the plan, which buys 50 content types, four environments, 50,000 records and up to five workflows. Combined, that is $1,150 a month, and it is the last number Contentful publishes. Everything beyond it is Enterprise, quoted by a salesperson, and the drivers Contentful names are the number and complexity of your use cases rather than anything you can estimate from a table.
The metering is worth understanding before you commit, because it is the other half of the price. On paid plans, usage past the allowance runs at $5 per additional million API calls a month and $0.15 per additional gigabyte of asset bandwidth a month. In practice that means a campaign landing well, a preview environment rebuilding often, or a frontend that fetches more than it needs all appear as line items. It is a fair model and a transparent one. It is also the opposite of a fixed monthly cost, which is what most small teams are actually shopping for.
You have paid, and the website is still yours to build
This is the cost the pricing page cannot show. Contentful returns JSON. Everything a visitor experiences, page templates, URL routing, navigation, site search, forms, image markup, caching and the hosting underneath all of it, is a frontend you specify, staff, deploy and keep alive. Contentful Studio softens this for marketers, but only after an Experiences SDK integration registers your own components, and Contentful's pricing FAQ states plainly that Studio and Personalization typically require initial development work first. SEO metadata and technical output need to be implemented and tested in the chosen front end.
How Grigora compares
Grigora provides the site renderer, hosting and content editor in one service, with MCP access for supported management workflows. That is different from Contentful’s headless delivery APIs. Grigora still has plan limits for pages, bandwidth, storage and AI use, and offers less content-model, locale and environment depth.
One subscription that already renders the page
Starter at $12 a month billed annually covers the website and its hosting, the CMS with posts, categories, author profiles, directories and moderated comments, a newsletter with 2,500 subscribers and campaign automations, and a store with catalogue, variants, stock and digital downloads at 0% platform commission on Stripe or Razorpay. Pro at $20 and Business at $45 raise the site count, AI credits and subscriber limits. Against Contentful's ladder, Business sits at roughly one seventh of the entry paid plan, and the comparison is not really like for like, because on the Contentful side you have not yet paid anyone to build the thing visitors see.
The publishing side follows from the same decision. Metadata, schema controls, sitemaps and IndexNow submission are settings rather than tickets, and the marketing site carries free SEO tools alongside them. Adding a page, changing a URL or setting a redirect does not involve a build, a deploy or a developer, which for most marketing teams is the difference between shipping a change on Tuesday and shipping it in the next sprint. The AI generator writes a first draft of the whole site from a description, and the block editor accepts custom code injection when you need something specific.
Where Contentful still wins
Structure, languages and release discipline, and it is not close. If one entry has to render correctly in a website, an iOS app and a partner feed simultaneously, Contentful's content types, reference fields and taxonomy are built for exactly that and Grigora's collections are not a substitute. If you publish in twelve languages and need to push one of them live on its own, Contentful supports a technical maximum of 500 locales per environment, subject to lower plan entitlements with locale-level publishing, and Grigora has no answer at all. If your content model needs to be branched in a sandbox, tested and promoted with a way back, Contentful gives you up to 151 environments, aliases, a Content Management API and a CLI; Grigora gives you one live site. Add SSO, SCIM, tag-based permissions, EU data residency and an uptime SLA of up to 99.99% and the gap at the top end is real. This page is for the teams who were handed that machinery and only ever needed a site with a blog, a list and a checkout.
Frequently asked questions
Choose Grigora for a managed website, blog, newsletter and product store when its content model is sufficient. Choose Contentful for shared content delivered to multiple applications, deeper localization, references and enterprise publishing controls.
Read live on 11 September 2026, the free plan is $0 forever with hard caps at 1 Space, 25 content types, 10,000 records, 100,000 API calls and 50 GB of asset bandwidth a month. Lite is listed at $300 a month; no annual rate is published. A single Lite Space add-on costs $850 a month on top, taking you to 50 content types, 4 environments and 50,000 records. Enterprise, Studio and all Personalization tiers are quoted by sales with no published figure.
It is tight, and Contentful frames it as being for learning and exploring the platform rather than for production. The caps are hard rather than billable, so you stop instead of being charged, and support is Discord and documentation with no ticketed technical support. An older Contentful help page states it is not intended for commercial purposes, but that page is dated 2020 and cites user and role numbers that no longer match the live pricing page, so the restriction is best treated as unclear.
No. Contentful returns JSON over its Delivery, GraphQL, Preview and Sync APIs. Templates, routing, navigation, forms, image markup and hosting are all built and paid for separately. Contentful Studio provides a visual canvas, but it requires an Experiences SDK integration to register your components, and Contentful's own pricing FAQ notes that Studio and Personalization usually need development work before a marketer can use them.
Neither. There is no cart, checkout, payment processing, inventory, tax or shipping in the product; products are modelled as entries and connected to a commerce engine such as Shopify or commercetools through marketplace apps, with the storefront built by you. There is no campaign builder, contact list or sending infrastructure either. Klaviyo and SAP Emarsys appear on the pricing page only as data connections feeding Personalization on Enterprise plans.
Yes. Salesforce announced a definitive agreement to acquire Contentful GmbH on 1 June 2026 and its newsroom post carries an editor's note saying the acquisition completed on 1 September 2026. Salesforce says it will integrate Contentful across Customer 360 and make its content architecture available to Agentforce while keeping the platform composable. No purchase price was officially disclosed; press reports have cited figures attributed to an unnamed source, so none is quoted here.
